Leadership is setting an example and serving others into greatness!
The room I am in right now is the kitchen.
I took a picture of a stool, diffuser, magnet, knife, organic apple, and a painting. All of these objects make a difference - whether it is in the room, a person’s health or the shape of an object. The space I am standing in is kind of my command center. I often work in the kitchen because it has a large table, windows and and open feeling and is a central location in my house. The fact that snacks and tea are close at hand is an added bonus! At this moment, I am tired, knowing I have a lot to still complete, but feeling good because of the many blessings I have in my life despite the challenges.
Leadership is....
Leaders impact those they lead whether they like it or not. They set an example that others respond to and often emulate. What is important to them becomes important to those they lead. What they ignore may become something to be disregarded. When they are doing a great job, they inspire others to greatness. They encourage people to reach for new heights in their lives and work. Their leadership creates a space for people to safely try new things and grow as individuals and as a community. If a leader is not leading well it creates unrest, upheaval, mistrust, apathy and disrespect. People lose their zest for creating and doing. Their joy in a job well done is stifled and the entire community becomes stagnant and disheartened and may end up in a complete state of dissoluteness. Good leadership creates trust and contentment. The leader’s passion for excellence multiplies and spreads and the surrounding atmosphere generally becomes one of good energy and growth.
"The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things."
--Ronald Reagan

Leadership is....
- Supporting others: The stool I chose has put in long hours of service with my grandparents and now with me. It was needed for many things that changed as I grew - sitting at the table, putting up dishes, hanging photos and a great seat for conversations in the kitchen. A leader’s job is to support others in whatever position they are in and help them to accomplish their goals.
- Setting the tone: My diffuser permeates the atmosphere with pleasant and healing scents. It can change the atmosphere and moods in a place. Leaders set the tone for the people and places they influence.
- Shaping a vision: This magnet greets me every time I enter the room. A leader should always be forward thinking, envisioning great things, and then finding ways to put them into practice.
- Staying on the cutting edge: This knife is fabulous when sharp but a hassle and even dangerous when dull. A leader needs to always stay sharp by reading, learning from others, and listening.
- Open to change: I love this painting because there is the beautiful, safe garden with an open gate leading to new opportunities and an unknown destination. Leaders should always be open to new directions and opportunities. They must be organic and willing to grow and change with the times, circumstances and current needs of the people they serve.
- Passionate: Fire is hot and brings change quickly! A leader who is lukewarm will do little good in their area of service. Passionate leaders brings energy and inspire change in those around them.
